Time, spent as we like, is the most
valuable thing in life. Some of us
may feel overworked, hectic and unappreciated, but a U.S. Census
Bureau survey has shown that an American’s average day is 8
hours working, 7.5 hours sleeping, 3.4 hours eating, household
activities and caring for others, and 5.1 hours of free time.
New technologies will facilitate more
efficient use of time in the future, while the cost and gridlock
of transportation will change our locations and our life and
work patterns. We will have more opportunities to facilitate and
personalize our daily schedules and to decide how we define our
time.
Our personal circumstances and priorities,
how we make use of technology, and the kind of service we demand
from suppliers will add or subtract from our “free time”.
